Raiding mum's wardrobe

Never Underdressed's assistant editor Kelly Bowerbank on her vintage leather skirt

This skirt was my mam’s. She’d wear it on a Saturday night when I was a kid. It was the ‘80s and I was mesmerised by the ritual of her getting ready to go out. The gas (GAS!) tongs, the blue eyeshadow, the shoulder pads! She had so many amazing clothes but this fuchsia beauty was the one piece that stood out. I’d try it on at every opportunity and it would instantly fall to the floor. I was a forlorn five year old convinced  that I’d never be big enough to wear it. But of course I am and it’s lived in my wardrobe for almost 15 years now. For a long time it would get a regular showing come rain or shine, day or night, but the leather’s showing its age a little so these days I have to ration my wears.
