6 female celebs in Forbes's top ten

by

Who runs the world? Etc.

According to Forbes magazine's global celebrity power list, out today, women (I refuse to say girls, sorry) really do. Six of the top ten are female, some stats practically unheard of, not only in the Hollywood game and entertainment business (where women are usually reduced to fluff, bums and carb-avoiding dust particles) but just generally, you know, in the world, because women are paid less, listened to less and just generally thought of less.

So hurrah! to Oprah, who retains the top slot (okay, yeah, we don't really get that either but if we were American we would – ditto Ellen DeGeneres, who brackets the top slots at number ten), and to Lady Gaga, who's in at number two. Only yesterday we were asking in the office where she had gone – clearly it doesn't matter if she takes some time out, because her Monsters still adore her.

Then there's Beyoncé (of course), Madonna (double of course) and Taylor Swift, showcasing a breadth of diversity and romantic naivete heretofore unseen at the tops of most lists, which tend to be the preserve of aging white men and their nosehair.

Go women! Go celebrities! And go the fact that the ones at the top of this particular list each have something going for them which is way beyond the norm, be it age, race, sexuality or continually being dumped. So, in fact, go all of us, for choosing and supporting, nay believing in, such a nice selection of real-world-reflecting celebrities. Kind of.
