The Oscars is the biggest night in the red carpet calendar, so it's no surprise that the stars are always turned out in their finest and most memorable looks for the annual awards ceremony. 

It's given us dresses that have made a million memes (thanks Angelina's leg and Jennifer Lawrence's marshmallow dress), it saw the genesis of the vintage trend via Courtney Love and Amanda de Cadenet in cream silk shifts, and where would any favourite red carpet round up be without Bjork's outrageous swan dress. Even when accepting an Oscar from her sick bed, Joan Crawford did so in her fanciest dressing gown. Now that's commitment.
