First look: Kristen Stewart is a sharp-shooter for Chanel
We've been waiting for it ever since she stepped out in Dallas last December at the Chanel Métiers d'Art show wearing buttery leather trousers and a sweatshirt nonchalantly knotted around her waist, a haute tribute to one of our favourite teenage looks. It was announced then that Stewart was to be the next face of Chanel, the latest in an impressive line-up that includes Keira Knightley, Lily Allen, and of course Marilyn Monroe.
Now the images have leaked online, and they show Stewart at her fiercest best. She's even wearing a gun-belt. For all that she has been called moody on the red carpet before (she, like most normal people, doesn't smile on request), these pictures are brooding and brilliant. They're also the epitome of cool, with Stewart wearing, in the first, what looks like a pair of fur gauntlets with a metallic shirt knotted at the navel (another fave teenage look!) and topped off with a giant Karl Lagerfeld-esque collar. Check out the metal-tipped belt too.
The pictures are shot in an almost sepia tone, with colours very subtly showing through. There's even a faded stars-and-stripes flag pinned onto the wooden backdrop behind her. In one, Stewart wears a Navajo-style fringed jacket, complete with gun holsters and a fringed 2.55 handbag.
Elsewhere, she's in a Wild West-esque ruffled and tiered white skirt – which is only fitting when you consider the Texan roots of the collection, which was shown in a real rodeo setting – sporting a modern mohican of sorts and a patterned bolero jacket.
The final image shows Stewart in jeans, a knotted 'Paris-Dallas' T-shirt and fringed jacket, with cowboy boots, chewing on an authentic Wild Frontier toothpick. After the Dallas show and the label's latest supermarket sweep autumn 2014 collection, let it not be said that Karl Lagerfeld doesn't enjoy taking a theme and running with it.
We look forward to seeing more of the Stewart campaign when it launches.
