Why we'll always love Dolly Parton
Dolly Parton has never been cool. She's been, and still is, fabulous, fearless, outrageous in her approach to style and hilariously candid in the face of criticism - this is the woman who said 'it takes a lot of money to look this cheap'. Speaking of the quotable Ms Parton, she's pretty wise too, gaining the nickname the Dolly Lama thanks to pearls of advice such as 'we can't direct the wind but we can adjust the sails'. We hear you Dolly!
All of that trumps cool if you ask us.
And then of course, there's the music. The moving lyrics, the belting voice that manages to remain angelic. Everyone knows Dolly's original, more heartfelt and subtler version of I will Always Love you wipes the floor with Whitney's and you just try listening to Blue Tears without getting one in your own eye.
When it comes to her style, more is more is the Dolly motto. Her commitment to extravagant dressing is rivalled only by fellow fringing fan Cher.
They're like the yin and yang of over-the-top.
It's often said that people with the best style stick to a signature they know, and on that basis, Dolly's admirable commitment to sequins keeps her in the upper echelons of fashion icons.
Jumpsuits, dresses, shirts - there is nothing that Dolly doesn't sequin.
She has for a long time brought a showgirl look to her country stage-wear, attracting as much criticism then as her modern day counterparts Rihanna and Miley Cyrus get now for showing skin. Not that Dolly has any regrets, or a desire to knock the newbies.
Of goddaughter Miley Cyrus' controversial look she said, 'back in the day, doing my own things my own way, and dressing sexy and showing my cleavage and all that, I got a lot of criticism. Everyone has to walk this journey according to their own rules. That's what [Miley's] doing. And I lurve her.'
Haters gonna hate.
Such is Dolly's ownership of this sparkly look, it's hardly changed over the past several decades. This recent picture of her, performing in Cardiff in 2014 could as easily belong to the 80s or 90s.
Her music's pretty timeless too. You'd still happily have Dolly's soulful songs from the 60s on repeat now.
Plus, 60s Dolly is a total babe.
If Dolly's style is as big as her personality, her hair, which has never been anything other than Barbie blonde and architecturally coiffed, is even bigger.
From a beehive to a bouff, beyond massive hair has been her signature from the start.
Ever one to make fun of her own image, Dolly's never pretended hair this huge could be for real, once joking, 'people ask me how long it takes to do my hair, and I tell them "I don't know, I'm never there"'.
It's a wonder a woman so small can hold up under it.
When you mix this all together you get one of the most badass performers who've ever been and there's no doubt that she's going to kill it at this year's Glastonbury.
Naturally, the internet loves her.
How could the world wide web not have a crush on someone who looks this good holding kittens?
Never change, Dolly!
