Is that a wedding dress on the red carpet?
Our panelists on the latest and greatest celebrity looks
Lily Collins wearing a dress from the Houghton bridal collection at the Canadian premiere of The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones last night.
Sali Hughes, beauty editor at the Guardian
Oof. Her body looks incredible in this dress. The open-back design is incredibly sexy while still looking elegant and dignified, thanks to the demure long sleeves. My only complaint is that the sparkly headband and soft make-up make the whole look too bridal. A red lip and bed hair would have kept it firmly on the red carpet and away from the church altar.
Elin Evans, junior fashion editor at Never Underdressed
Lily Collins has nailed the modern princess look. She wears ethereal lace dresses that most seven-year-olds would covet while keeping the whole look modern and cool. The key is her styling and those eyebrows, which ground the whole look firmly on the side of cool rather than twee. She’s even managed to pull off wearing this dress from NY label Houghton’s bridal collection on the red carpet. Yes – she’s wearing a wedding dress, and rocking it.
Peter Jensen, designer
So she is the daughter of Phil Collins, everybody else but me probably knew that... And an actress. I see. I don't like this dress on her, she is a young girl who has been put into a middle-age dress with a backless detail and lo and behold, she has been told to turn her back to the photographers so they can see the detail and some skin. Her make-up and hair do is a bit better but not much. I'm sorry, she looks like a pretty girl, but maybe she should trust her own style more than the stylist who is telling her what to wear. I think she would look great in Miu Miu or vintage from the 1940s.
