Three beauty tweaks we've learnt at Milan Fashion Week

by

Saturday at the Milan shows proved to be an enriching experience for the beauty minded. We had way-out glitter, a square-shaped smokey eye and a rolled up hairstyle that in Eugene Souleiman’s words, was a perfect blend of Sean Younger, Bladerunner, an Edwardian lady and wolf ears’. No – us neither.

But amidst today’s madness, there was also some failsafe tips that – tiny as they are – will make your morning routine so much easier. Here’s what we learnt today:

To banish frizz
After years of applying a smoothing product then blow-drying, it turns out we’ve been doing it wrong all along. At Au Jour Le Jour, stylist Marco Iafrate sprayed TIGI Bedhead Queen For A Day into hair whilst simultaneously blow-drying it in a downward direction to eliminate static. Clever.

The new mani/pedi rule
‘This is the rock and roll shade of the nail world – it’s cool but a little bit dirty,’ said MAC technician, Keri Blair of the mani/pedi at Roberto Cavalli. Cocktailing a blend of fleshy Quiet Time with peachy-toned Thimble Weed (out this summer), she painted two coats on toenails and one coat on fingers for a simple but subtle variation in colour depth. Smart.

The instant face slimmer
We all know that vertical stripes on our clothes make our bodies appear thinner. At Antonio Marras, we met the beauty equivalent in a flash of silver down the centre of each eyelid and a swipe of dark, plummy MAC Sin Lipstick down the middle of the lips. Perfect for counteracting a Milanese carb-fest.
