Alexander McQueen’s sweet smelling news of a fragrance foray

by

Well hasn’t it been a good month so far for Proctor and Gamble’s Prestige division? High fives all round. Only last Friday they announced that they had poached the licensing deal of Stella McCartney’s fragrances from L’Oreal and today they come bearing more brilliant news. The company will be developing both a male and female fragrance for fashion empire Alexander McQueen later this year. Good going P&G.

Now this isn’t the first time that Alexander McQueen has ventured into fragrance. Oh no. Those of you with good memories or a deep fondness for the brand will recall that back in 2003 they launched a scent called Kingdom. You know, in that cool red and silver bottle that looked a bit like a 3D heart. And sort of like a slice of watermelon. And then two years later in 2005 came My Queen, the woody, vanilla concoction which fashion folk went mad for. But neither hung around for long and were swapping hands on eBay between McQueen obsessives for five times their retail price. Blimey.

So news that the brand is making a whole, new foray into the world of scent brings with it a bucket load of excitement, but also the important question: what will the next scent be like? Perhaps Sarah Burton will add a touch of her whimsical nature to it with lily of the valley notes. Perhaps they’ll build on the spicy, citrus notes that Lee was rumoured to love. Either way, here’s hoping it a keeper.
