The Row has produced yet another outstanding collection. For Resort 2014, sisters Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen were inspired by a vintage photo of fishermen wearing their pants up to their chests. What followed was an exercise in stylish restraint that’s impressed us so much we felt compelled to meditate on the brand’s brilliance.
Launched four years ago by celebrity twins who seemed to spend their lives scurrying away from the paparazzi whilst clutching Starbucks cups large enough to contain their entire body’s blood supply, the label quashed the critics’ cries almost immediately. Quiet, restrained, blissfully trend-free and utterly timeless, the Olsen twins have created a line that is universally coveted, and they themselves have become a designer force to reckon with.
