When a car tried to out-super the supers
The Renault Clio might have had French cool in its favour with Papa and Nicole, but when the Corsa launched 20 years ago today, Vauxhall went one, (or actually five) better, enlisting the top super models Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Tatjana Patitz to tell the world that their latest launch was the ‘new supermodel’.
In the ad, featured in a new book, Vauxhall and I, a 19-year-old Kate Moss is pushed from her podium by the car while the other try and sabotage it in various amusingly divaish ways, and it’s got to be said, it doesn’t take a great stretch of the imagination be believe that Naomi, dressed as a dominatrix, could get too big for her boots and compete with a car for attention.
