Everything you need to know about last night's Golden Globes

The 71st Golden Globes took place in Los Angeles last night with the stars of the film and television industries turning out in all their finery, collecting awards, photobombing each other, engaging in PDAs, making wisecracks and doing all the things that celebrities do come award season.
The red carpet was, as expected, a stylish, quite directional affair. The major trend to emerge from the evenining was the stepped hem, seen on Downton Abbey darling Michelle Dockery and Zooey Deschanel (both in Oscar de la Renta), Masters of Sex actress Caitlin Fitzgerald (in Emilia Wickstead) and Sandra Bullock in Prabal Gurung. Vibrant bright colours and T-shirt-style sleeves were also major trends.
Pregnancy was another trend with Kerry Washington (in Balenciaga), Drew Barrymore (in Monique Lhuillier) and Olivia Wilde (in Gucci) turning up on the red carpet with baby bumps.
And, of course, JLaw (in, of course, Dior couture) ruled the evening. Winning us over when she dropped (and quickly recovered) her diamond bracelet.
Delighting us by photobombing Taylor Swift.
And making us all love her by acting completely adorable as she won Best Supporting Actress while nestled between gorgeous co-star Bradley Cooper and on-again-off-again-very-much-on-again-it-would-seem boyfriend Nicholas Hoult.
Of course Lupita Nyong'o looked beautiful – the woman is a red carpet sensation – but the film that made her a star, 12 Years A Slave, picked up just one award, the gong for Best Drama.
Lupita Nyong'o's AMAZING stylist Micaela Erlanger was at the Golden Globes too and Instagrammed a picture of her shoes (Louboutin) and bag (Edie Parker Jean).
When it came to the film categories, American Hustle picked up the most awards with Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence picking up Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress respectively and the film nabbing Best Comedy. If there were an award for hair, it would have won that too.
Girls missed out on the awards, losing Best TV Comedy to Brooklyn Nine-Nine but the stars all won on the red carpet.
Lena Dunham wore a canary yellow gown by Zac Posen.
Jemima Kirke was a red carpet hipster: all tattoos and bearded date. And my God, would you look at that tumbling mermaid hair.
Allison Williams was super-sleek in Alexander McQueen.
And Zosia Mamet had her hair cut into a bob. Go Shosh.
There were fun times, like when host Tina Fey made a funny joke about Leonardo DiCaprio's penchant for dating models. 'And now, like a supermodel's vagina, let's all give a warm welcome to Leonardo DiCaprio,' she said as her sidekick Amy Poehler grinned on. Leonardo DiCaprio didn't seem to be overly bothered by the gag and went on to win a Best Actor in a comedy for The Wolf of Wall Street so, you know, he had a good night.
Host Amy Poehler won an award herself, picking up Best Actress in a TV Comedy for Parks and Recreation.
Jared Leto had a very groomed updo thing going on, much to the delight of Twitter. He won Best Supporting Actor for Dallas Buyers Club and regaled the crowd with tales of his full-body waxing regimes.
On the TV front, Breaking Bad was the main winner, picking up Best Production and Best Actor for Bryan Cranston. Yeah b*tch.
Bono and P.Diddy got awkward.
'Then,' as we all know at this stage, 'after the show, it's the after party / And after the party, it's the hotel lobby / Yeah, around about four you gotta clear the lobby / Then take it to ya room and freak somebody.' A lot of people would like to get freaky with Benedict Cumberbatch or Michael Fassbender, we'd wager.

If you are married and pregnant, like Drew Barrymore, however, you go get some pizza, Instagram it and head on home.
Or if you are Lena Dunham – secretly, a very together and with-it dame, unlike her chaotic creation, Hannah Horvath – you leave the parties at a reasonable hour, kicking back in your car, your Zac Posen artfully dishevelled.
