Jason Wu announced as artistic director at Hugo Boss
It’s all change in fashion today. Following the news that Emma Hill is out at Mulberry comes the announcement that Jason Wu is in at Hugo Boss, as artistic director for womenswear.
While continuing to head up his eponymous label, the designer, whose dresses made history when worn by Michelle Obama at the inauguration ball for her husband Barack Obama’s presidency, commented that he plans ‘to develop a strong, feminine womenswear collection that reciprocates the brand’s authority in menswear’.
Working from a new studio in New York, Wu will oversee a team of designers in Mertzingen, Germany and will debut his designs with a pre-fall 2014 collection, followed by a full catwalk show for autumn winter 2014, during New York Fashion Week in February.
Hugo Boss has long been famed for sharp androgynous tailoring, while Wu’s designs err on far more feminine territory, with hourglass shapes, floral patterns and pretty silk-chiffon in abundance, so we can’t wait to see what he comes up with for Hugo Boss as these two parallel worlds collide. One thing’s for sure, your work wardrobe is about to get one serious overhaul.
