What the Frock: the Queen

The Queen attends the sixtieth anniversary celebrations of her coronation in Westminster Abbey

Dolly Alderton, TV producer and writer
I think The Queen has got it dead on here. The chick has found her fail-safe outfit template and she's sticking with it. For Coco Chanel, it was a simple black base and an accent of pearls. For Anna Wintour, it's a neat fringed bob and a well-tailored shift dress. For HRH, it's a brocade two- to three-piece suit in a pastel shade with a well-placed brooch, matching hat, Dot Cotton handbag and look of disdain. She's been crowd-pleasing with this look for years and long may it continue, I say.

Ursula Lake, fashion director at Never Underdressed
I love the Queen; she is never underdressed. What I love the most about this outfit is her jewellery: ropes of pearls, matching earrings and an Brazilian aquamarine and diamond brooch the size of an egg. I only wish I could see what epic ring she has hiding under those gloves.

For a minute there I thought Queen Elizabeth II was holding an envelope clutch under her arm as a nod to the autumn 2013 Céline show. Actually, it seems, it's just some documents, but even so she seems to have coordinated it with the rest of her gold-y cream outfit, which is no mean feat. Even If she wasn't sovereign of the United Kingdom, she'd still be the queen of the matchy-matchy look, which – as no one else in the world really dresses like this – you have to salute her for. I like the gold jacquard in particular - it's quite jazzy for her, and the blue rose on her hat is a nice splash of colour too, though it does look a bit like an iced cake decoration. Is it treason to say that?
