How to do the flower in your hair thing as a grown woman

by

Show me a grown woman who hasn't considered delicately assembling a rose garden on top of her head lately, and I will show you a fibber.

Flowers are everywhere this summer, not just in the obvious physical sense, but cropping up in head bands, peeping out of buns and tucked, coquettishly behind ears.

There's something just so inherently lovely about wearing a flower in your hair. Flowers are happy, lovely things so it figures. Worn as an accessory, they're ridiculously versatile too; depending on your placement and style, a flower popped in the hair can be coy, darling, exotic, sexy, enigmatic, severe or whatever the hell you want it to be.

However, there is a snag. The plethora of faux-flower garlands encircling the high street right now has turned this timeless coiffure-ment into the play-stuff of tweens. Avoid it by going vintage, or juxtapose the cutesyness with boyish shorts and brogues. As always, it's how you wear it that matters. But wear it you must.

And once you've got that sorted, go and find a lovely field to dance around in. Or, Glastonbury.
