Hannah Murray, the smell of bacon and her Big Apple scent
The make-up artist and Topshop consultant talks essential oils, home smells and the nostalgic scent of after sun
‘A few months ago I got Escentric Molecule 01. It’s so weird because it’s very subtle to me – when I smell it on myself I can barely smell it at all but everyone else smells it much more strongly on me. I bought it in Barneys in New York. I used to wear Prada Infusion for a long time but I smelt Escentric on a friend and I was like, ‘Oh my god! That’s so gorgeous.’
My acupuncturist makes me up an essential oil mix to help with jetlag because I travel a lot. It contains rosemary and peppermint amongst other things and I apply it to four points: in between my thumb and first finger and in between my big toe and second toe. It makes me feel grounded and a little more awake.
"The smell of freshly-mown grass reminds me so much of home – I'm a country girl at heart."
The smell of freshly mown grass reminds me so much of home – I'm a country girl at heart so that smell instantly takes me there. I'm also a real foodie so I love the smells wafting from the kitchen... a Sunday roast, fresh coffee, burnt toast, bacon, tomatoes on the vine, fresh herbs (I love rubbing rosemary between my thumb and finger to release the scent), and anything cooking on a BBQ.
I'm off to Koh Samui for 2 weeks and then onto England. I'll be taking my Molecule 01 with me but I'll probably not use it so much as I love the smell of after sun creams and oils. And that salt water smell that you get in your hair when on holiday.'
