Kat Dennings vamps it up in vintage Lanvin

Kat Dennings attends the London premiere of Thor: The Dark World wearing vintage Lanvin last night

I'm trying not to be the down voice on this because so much on paper is right. Red lips, alabaster skin, strapless black velvet, cream satin, LANVIN. But the shape is all wrong. The gathered high waist and asymmetrical neck and hem lines look bunchy and weird. It reminds me of the sort of dress that I would have bought as a deeply impressionable 16-year-old in an Oxfam, encouraged by a cool, thin friend who assured me that it's 'vintage'. Here's what I've learnt of the years, Kat - just 'cos it's vintage, don't make it pretty. Even when you're as gorgeous as you are, you still must keep this mantra in mind when you're next down at the Camden Stables Market.

Lanvin is a real go-to label for red-carpet events and I think Kat has chosen well with this beautiful asymmetrical dress. Simple without being boring and it also has an understated sexiness that works really well on her. Loving the red lip and the loose hair too.

Sure, Kat Dennings hasn't gone for something out-there and brilliant like her Thor co-star Natalie Portman's Dior space-age toilet-roll doll outfit but this vintage Lanvin number is a rock-solid red-carpet look. It's a more of a grown-up dress for her and with the red lip has enough of a touch of pre-Halloween vampishness to keep things exciting. Btw, who wants to place bets on a certain paper talking about Kat's 'curves' being 'poured' or 'flaunted'?
