Anya Hindmarch find beauty in the banal
We’ve come to expect something inventive from an Anya Hindmarch show. In her quest to make her handbags comes alive, we’ve witnessed a Cirque du Soleil-style Galaxy and Willy Wonka sets. All brilliantly bonkers and imaginative from a brand that is constantly surprising with new ideas of the kitsch and classic in equal measure.
Today Hindmarch presented us with a supermarket sweep of a show, with the striped set filled with long conveyor belts on which models pushed trollies and carried steel baskets containing the new collection. The theme was finding beauty in the banal and vivid bags showed the iconic designs of Frosties’ Tony the Tiger, packets of Coco Pops, Daz and Ariel washing powder across totes and clutch bags. More realistic yet were the little tube evening bags designed like a packet of McVities. And to attract the Magpies amongst us were clean metallic sweetie wrapper purses on long silver chains.
To finish, a troupe of male dancers choreographed their way around the conveyors in true Broadway style. Anya Hindmarch, the musical. It's only a matter of time.
