There’s always a look from the collections that gets picked up in a big way by the September issues and this year it seems to be a grungy-looking mohair cardigan from Saint Laurent.

It first appeared, styled with a baby doll dress on model Edie Campbell, as look two in Hedi Slimane’s California grunge-inspired collection for Saint Laurent last February, and now the piece  – available to buy here – has now been shot for US Glamour, on actress and rising fashion star, Chloe Grace Moretz, and for US Marie Claire, on everybody’s favourite kook, Zooey Deschanel.   

Meanwhile, the cover looks of the September issues that have landed so far (as well as US Glamour and Marie Claire, we’ve seen the UK issues of Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Elle) seem to be either going for this ultra-luxe grunge look –  Zooey wears more from the same Saint Laurent collection on the Marie Claire cover and Daria Werbowy is in a Balenciaga leather jacket and a Stella McCartney knit on UK Vogue – or tailored ladylike, like Natalia Vodianova in Dior on UK Bazaar and Katy Perry in Dolce & Gabbana on UK Elle.

It remains to be seen which way US Vogue will go, or whether they’ll beat an entirely different path.
