Lucky Harper Beckham has hit birth-order gold

by

Looking at the recent adorable pictures of a delightfully squishy-faced, casually attired Harper Beckham, it’s clear to see that she’s no simpering Suri.

Harper Beckham is the much-longed-for daughter of one of the most famous women in fashion and yet she’s not one of those toddlers who has to be perfectly prissy in a matchy-matchy Bonpoint dresses to have fun. Why? Because she’s got brothers.

As a girl who grew up with only sisters, went to an all-girls school and didn’t really know boys until I was a grown adult at university, the advantages of growing up the sole sister in a rambunctious brother-filled house are obvious.

Girls with brothers, especially three older brothers, grow up with a healthy sense of perspective; they don’t learn to negotiate via manipulation the way only girls and girls who just have sisters do. They don’t scratch anybody’s eyes out over hairbands and tutus and Barbies.

They are less neurotic, they get to meet lots of older boys via their brothers, their dad secretly loves them the most (just look at David Beckham in the Kiss Cam video) and they don’t have to share their stuff. Or, crucially in this case, their mum’s stuff.

Little Harper Beckham will grow up with her feet on the ground thanks to her brothers, healthy self-esteem due to her dad and the best, most bulging wardrobe ever courtesy of her mum. She has hit birth-order gold.
